As part of its work on good governance under BALADI CAP (the USAID-funded program that aims to build the capacity of civil society organizations in Lebanon), the Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace (LFPCP) published an online report titled “Building a Rule of Law Society: to Enhance Bases of Democratic Governance and Rule of Law” in June 2018. The report aims to support the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the Ministry of Health in implementing laws, adopting three laws:
- The law on the Mechanism to Protect Confidentiality of Citizens’ DNA Information
- The food safety law
- The Law of Measurement and Scaling System in Lebanon (Metrology).
The LFPCP provided support through the drafting of implementation decrees, national discussion groups/workshops, and an awareness campaign. The report, published in Arabic, English and French, brings together articles from various experts in the aforementioned three fields who identify the general framework within which the laws exist, a needs assessment for the Lebanese context, along with policy recommendations. The report ends with a synthesis provided by Dr. Antoine Maasara, President of LFPCP and an evaluation of challenges, achievements and lessons learned by Lawyer and Program Director at LFPCP, Mr. Rabih Kays.
